Sokola Pesisir

2005 - ONGOING

As one of the most populous kampongs in the city of Makassar, Mariso faces various social problems such as poverty, illiteracy, and poor environmental quality. Located not far from the Losari Beach tourist area, it turns out that Mariso has 80% of the illiterate population. Sokola started a literacy program in 2005 which was followed by vocational programs such as computers, salons, screen printing, and entrepreneurship as well as a kindergarten certified by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Currently, all of the programs are in the transition process of running only by the local youth in which they have just established an organization named Sokola Pesisir. Sokola assists the youth to maintain the sustainability of the programs.
